Some history:
The boom began when the village in the thirteenth century the family of the lords of Torroella, at the behest of King James I, took part in the conquest of the islands. Torroella became a royal town thanks to its strategic value. During the fourteenth century, the population went through a period of maximum splendor that became the main center of the Empordà and summer residence of various monarchs. Torroella began its decline when he lost the royal favor, adding to the general crisis of the fifteenth century. Then stopped the thriving textile mills and trading halt. Its economy was reduced to agriculture.

Anyway, the economy of this town has always been linked to the industry to a greater or lesser extent. The tourist is certainly the predominant today, but we must not forget some companies national and international headquarters are in Torroella de Montgrí (Enplater, a leader in its sector, or the Spanish branch of Panini).
Real estate, services, construction and trade which is, as noted earlier, a great tradition, few places have an annual fair with over 600 years old.
